Your child’s illness does not define who they are.

Childhood is a time for play.

Even in the toughest of circumstances, we help families find joy together. We don’t ever want kids to forget they’re kids. Sometimes, the best thing for the whole family is to find something to be silly about.

Caring for kids means caring for families.

When a member of a family experiences a life-threatening illness or injury, it impacts each member of that family differently. That’s why Alongside has groups for young children, teens, siblings, and parents/caregivers. We take a whole-family approach to healing.

Listening is learning.

We believe in listening first. Every family’s experience is different and we can all learn from each other. In hearing each other’s stories and talking about what worked or didn’t work, we find connection and understanding. Our staff are here to integrate research and evidence-based strategies into the mix and to facilitate a supportive environment for all.

Connection creates resilience.

Your child has you. You both have the Alongside community.
We know having a sick or recovering child can feel lonely at times, and we’re here to remind you that you’ve got a whole community of people behind you.

“My daughter hasn’t been in the hospital for almost two years, but we are still dealing with follow-up appointments and medical bills. Some of my friends say, ‘I’m so glad she’s better!’ but I can see that she’s not all the way there yet.”
