Alongside Network

is solving a critical system-wide gap in pediatric healthcare: the mental and emotional trauma that often follows a child's serious illness or injury. Hospitals provide extraordinary life-saving medical care, with innovations that are saving lives at a rate that once seemed unimaginable. While most hospitals have bereavement programs, the system has not yet caught up to support families who are now bringing their children home. Alongside is working to solve this with practical, evidence-based solutions.

Building on our success supporting families, and responding to what families have asked of us, we are expanding our work to focus on providers. Research shows that the high-stress environment of pediatric patient care deeply impacts providers, which can lead to decreases in the quality of patient care.

Alongside Network is responding to this need with initiatives that build connected, resilient communities. Using evidence-based strategies, Alongside focuses on the same core principles for families and providers: validating experiences, building community, and increasing coping skills, all of which are central to building trust and fostering emotional health. For providers and parents/caregivers, the resilience built in these groups is vital, enabling them to sustain high-quality, empathetic care. For families, adult caregivers receiving the care they need translates to better outcomes for each member of the family. For providers, this ultimately results in improved patient outcomes, raising the standard of professional practice.
